Andy Skerritt’s Parents- Tom Skerritt and Charlotte Shanks.

Born and raised in Detroit, MI, by his father, Roy, the owner of a small business, and his mother, Helen, a homemaker, Tom Skerritt is the youngest of three siblings. He attended Detroit’s Mackenzie High School in 1951 and took a bold step to serve in the military.

Tom enlisted just after graduating from high school and served a four-year call of duty in the United States Air Force as a classification specialist. Most of his enlistment was spent at Bergstrom Field, Austin, Texas.

Tom Skerritt had married his first wife Charlotte Shanks and had his first child Andy by the age of 21. Tom and Charlotte got married in 1957 in a beautiful wedding ceremony in the presence of their friends, families, and loved ones. The couple’s marriage came to an end in 1972 after they have been together for more than a decade and had three children. The cause of their divorce was not made public.

Though Tom tried his hand at acting while attending Wayne State University in Detroit, he moved across the country to matriculate at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he continued to train as an actor. 

Tom’s career started when he debuted in the film War Hunt produced by Terry Sanders and released in 1962. That same year, Skerritt made his television debut in the World War II series, “Combat!” (ABC, 1962-67), which led to prolific work in episodic television during the early years of his acting career. Since he got noticed and was given notable roles in movies like M*A*S*H and a lot more movies.

Andy Skerritt’s father has married three times. His first marriage was to Andy’s mother Charlotte Shanks, and then to Sue Oran, with whom he had a son Collin Skerritt and his current wife Julie Tokashiki with whom he has a daughter Emi Skerritt. 

Tom has featured in a number of films from War Hunt to his recent works. Because his works have been noticed and acknowledged. He is the recipient of numerous accolades including Emmy Awards and nominations for Golden Globe Awards.
