Who is Tom Skerritt’s ex-wife?

Charlotte Shanks was the first woman Tom Skerritt took to the alter. The couple tied the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony in 1957 and they moved to California when he transferred again to UCLA as an English major in 1960.

Though they planned to spend the rest of their life together, things didn’t go as planned. They called their marriage a quit in December 1972 after being together for about 15 years. Tom and Charlotte were the parents of three children Andy, Matt, and Erin.

Tom Skerritt was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is the youngest son of a homemaker, Helen, and Roy Skerritt, a Businessman. Charlotte’s ex-husband is known for his successful roles in films like Top Guns, Up in Smoke, and others. 

The actor grew up in a middle-class Detroit family, his father a small businessman and his mother a homemaker. Tom was not the only child of the couple, he had two brothers; a sister died as a child. If Tom couldn’t be a ballplayer he wanted to be Frank Sinatra, but he didn’t have the dash or voice.

After graduating from high school he enlisted in the military and served a four-year tour of duty in the United States Air Force as a classifications specialist. Most of his enlistment was spent at Bergstrom Field, Austin, Texas.

Charlotte’s ex-husband made his big-screen debut as Sergeant Stan Showalter’ in the 1962 film “War Hunt” alongside Robert Redford directed by Denis Sanders. He got a role in the 1970 American black-comedy war film M*A*S*H and with his experience in the armed forces he was able to deliver his role perfectly, this was followed with a lot more movie roles which made him successful as an actor. 

Skerritt is mildly workaholic and, despite his fondness for the 1960s, carries that sense of duty — that you should think, and read, and participate — typical of the Depression-World War II generation.
