Dawn Shirley Crang, professionally known as Sheree North was an American actress, dancer, and singer. She was born on 17 January 1932 in Los Angeles, California, US.  She is the daughter of Richard Crang and June Shoard( a real estate agent and pearl appraiser). Following her mother’s remarriage to Edward Bethel, she was known as Dawn Shirley Bethel.

Erica Eve Sommer’s mother began her dancing career at the age of six and she was given her first performance in USO shows during World War II at the age of 10.

Sheree has appeared in a number of movies including being one of  20th Century Fox’s intended successors to Marilyn Monroe. In 1953, She adopted the stage name Sheree North for her Broadway debut in the musical ‘Hazel Flagg’. She was discovered by choreographer Bob Alton while performing at the Macayo Club Santa Monica. She was cast as a chorus girl in ‘Here Come the Girl (1953). 

Erica’s mother married four times including Erica’s father. She first got married to her first daughter’s father, draftsman, Fred Bessire at the age of 16. Following their divorce in October 1953, she got married to television writer Bud Freeman in February 1955. However, they got divorced in 1956. 

She then met her third husband, Erica’s father, Psychologist  Gerhardt Sommer, in 1957. The two dated for a year and got married on 17 December 1958. They gave birth to Erica in 1959. After 5 years of being together, they got divorced in May 1963. 

Sheree married her fourth husband Emmy Award-winning title designer Philip ‘Phill’ Norman in 2003 and lived with him till her death in 2005. She died during a cancer surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on 4 November 2005 at the age of 73. 

Erica Eve Sommer’s mother has received a number of awards for her performances and contribution to the entertainment industry. She was a recipient of the Theatre World Award for her performance in Hazel Flagg(1953), and she has also been nominated for Emmy Awards twice.
