She has gained much influence in the industry to the point where she is referred to as the “Queen of Latin Pop”, she is considered one of the most successful and influential Mexican artists.

Yolanda Miranda Mange was born on 2 October 1935 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Yolanda is the daughter of Alberto Miranda and his ex-wife Eve Mange. She is of French origin. She gained much of her fame from her famous daughters.

Yolanda had five daughters; Laura Zapata, Thalía Sodi, Ernestina Sodi, Gabriela Sodi, and Frederica Sodi. Thalía is not her only famous daughter. Her daughter Laura Zapata is a Mexican support telenovela actress, singer, and dancer. She has acted in Televisa productions.

Yolanda Miranda Mange’s daughter Ernestina Sodi is the founder of Editorial Agueda and has published several works of fiction and nonfiction. She founded the Foundation for the Victims of Crime and lectures on the topic of crime victims and recovery. Her daughter Federica Sodi was an Archaeologist and Gabriela Sodi is Artist.

Thalía’s mother was a painter and also a lover of the Greek world, from where she derived her daughter, Thalía’s name. She was also known to be the right-hand man for her daughter Thalía. She went into show business, where she advised her daughter, accompanying her to recordings, and also at launches, meetings, and other activities.

It was reviewed in entertainment magazines that Yolanda had a very close relationship with her daughters especially Thalía, like how she supported her in 2003 when she wanted to start her own clothesline. She showed her how to move in the fashion market. Yolanda even accompanied her daughter to the shooting of the video You and I, which was made in Brooklyn. She also has a close relationship with her daughter’s husband Tommy Motolla. 

Yolanda Miranda Mange has been married twice. Her first marriage was to the Mexican ex-boxer Guillermo Zapata. They gave birth to their first daughter, Laura. Her second marriage was with Scientist Ernesto Sodi, with whom she had her four daughters. 

Her husband died in 1977, which made her a widow when her daughter, Thalía was 7 years old and this made them become close to each other. 

As a mother, Yolanda Miranda Mange always supports all her daughters, even Laura despite their distance. Once in an interview, she advised mothers to support their sons and daughters in their talents and endeavors.  

In September 2002, Laura and her sister Ernestina were kidnapped and taken to an unspecified location. They were on their way home from a theater when someone approached them and forced them into a car. They were taken to a house where they could not talk to anyone with a towel covering their head.

The kidnappers released Laura when they were with them for 18 days first when their family did not respond to them but her sister stayed with them for 16 more days, Thalía paid the demanded ransom for her sister to be released. 

Sabine Moussier recalls Yolanda saving her life. In an interview with the program Hoy, Sabine revealed Yolanda saved her from misdiagnosis. She said she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, which caused her severe pain.

The Abyss of Passion actress recalled how amidst the pain Yolanda called her and wanted to know the symptoms of the illness, she said Yolanda told her she did not suffer from the said illness but from another condition that can be cured if diagnosed early.

She said; One day Yolanda talks to me, rest in peace, Yolanda, and she says to me: ‘You don’t have fibromyalgia, nor Guillain-Barré, you have Lyme’, she said: ‘Thalia has Lyme’ and there are two doctors, one in New York and the other in Mexico, and yes, it was Lyme, so not that it was a bad lie, but a bad diagnosis”.

What happened to Thalía’s mother?

Unfortunately, Thalía’s mother Yolanda Miranda Mange died in 2011 at the age of 76 due to an unexpected stroke. She was looking forward to her second grandchild from her daughter Thalía and her daughter Ernestina getting married to businessman and politician, Mauricio Camps. 

Surprisingly, the day before her death, Yolanda accompanied her daughter, Ernestina to try on her wedding dress.

Yolanda lived in New York with her daughter where she was told she should be buried in that city and wanted her remains to rest there. Her daughter respected her mother’s request and had the ceremony with only close relatives.
